Internet on the Train

JSC «QMobile» is the official distributor of Eutelsat in Kazakhstan.

100,000+passengers used the internet in the first months

Challenge

On long railway routes, mobile coverage remains unstable due to the distance from ground infrastructure and the train's constant motion. Passengers lose access to the internet, online services, work, and communication.

Solution

On January 25, 2025, QMobile (formerly Jusan Mobile) became the first in the world to equip a passenger train with high-speed internet based on Eutelsat OneWeb low-orbit satellite technology. The technology was launched on the Astana–Almaty route, and in April on the Astana–Öskemen route.

Technology

The Kymeta Hawk U8 satellite terminal maintains a stable connection to low-orbit satellites while the train is moving, delivering data speeds of up to 50–100 Mbps.

Passenger comfort

The ability to work, study, use online services, and stay connected throughout the entire route.

Safety on board

Stable internet enables real-time transmission of surveillance camera footage, allowing passenger safety to be monitored along the entire route.

Data protection

Thanks to Eutelsat OneWeb technology, all internet traffic lands and is processed directly within Kazakhstan in accordance with the legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The «Internet on the Train» project became a technological breakthrough for passenger transport in Kazakhstan and contributed to the development of digital infrastructure for rail transport. In its first months of operation, around 100,000 passengers used the satellite internet.
