OneWeb Satellite Hub at the «Kokterek» Space Communications Center

JSC «QMobile» is a key partner of Eutelsat.

174-meter-diameter antennas in the hub

Challenge

A full-scale rollout of low-orbit satellite communications in Kazakhstan required building the country's own ground infrastructure to receive the satellite signal and route internet traffic domestically in accordance with the legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Solution

QMobile, the official distributor of Eutelsat in Kazakhstan, acted as the contractor for building Central Asia's first Eutelsat OneWeb gateway station at the «Kokterek» Space Communications Center. The hub's technical launch took place in October 2024.

Technology

QMobile carried out the full cycle of work to build the ground satellite station — from mathematical modeling and engineering design to construction of the infrastructure and commissioning of a computing center made up of three modular containers and an antenna field of 17 antennas, each 4 meters in diameter.

Digital sovereignty

The antenna field receives the signal from Eutelsat OneWeb low-orbit satellites and routes it into Kazakhstan's terrestrial telecommunications network.

Data protection

Traffic localization ensures compliance with the legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan and improves the security of user data.

Wide-scale coverage

The station provides satellite coverage for Kazakhstan and the countries of Central Asia.

The «OneWeb Satellite Hub» project laid the technological foundation for the development of low-orbit satellite communications in Kazakhstan, connecting remote villages, trains, industrial sites, and emergency services to stable, high-speed internet.
